THE BUSINESS OF ART DOWNTOWN
Spire Realty’s Exhibits at Bryan Tower to Promote Dallas Arts District
DALLAS — July 26, 2007 — For the next three months Bryan Tower visitors can view Dallasite George Tobolowsky’s abstract sculptures on display at the downtown building’s entrance and lobby beginning July 23. The “Business of Art” exhibit featuring works by Tobolowsky is the first in an expected series of Texas-based artists Spire Realty, LP is sponsoring through 2008 to promote the Dallas Arts District.
“Bryan Tower is only a couple of blocks from the art, music, dance and theatre that makes up the largest urban arts district in the United States,” said Caleb Smith, president and owner of Spire, which manages Bryan Tower. “Spire is a long-time friend to Downtown Dallas. We have worked to improve and beautify downtown since we began work in Dallas, and the Arts District is an incredibly important part of downtown’s make-up. Through the exhibit series at Bryan Tower, we hope to raise more awareness among our tenants and visitors about the variety and quality of the arts available to them downtown.”
Tobolowsky, a Southern Methodist University graduate and Dallas attorney and entrepreneur, uses “found pieces” of scrap metal and steel to create his abstract sculptures which often reflect his strong business background with very “corporate” titles such as “The Auditors,” or “Corporate Gladiator.” Tobolowsky co-founded the Texas Sculpture Association and has served on the boards of several educational and other organizations. His exhibit at Bryan Tower is coordinated by Gail Sachson, an ex officio board member of the Alliance, with pieces loaned by the Gerald Peters Gallery.
Other scheduled exhibits will follow and continue running sequentially through 2008. Spire is a corporate sponsor of the Dallas Arts District Alliance and an active member of the arts community.
